Most of the conditions that negatively affect your smile can be avoided with regular care. Your team at Cooper Moss Advanced Dentistry is committed to answering your questions about proper hygiene and to providing you with the most advanced preventive dentistry.
Medical and Dental History Review
Our dentists and hygienists begin your new patient experience with a thorough review of your medical and dental history so that we can get to know your past and current conditions. Your medications, past treatments, and current conditions are all very important in helping us arrive at the best recommendations for your dental healthcare.
If there is a change in your health or medication history, it is extremely important that you advise us of the change as it may significantly impact our recommendations for your dental treatment. Whenever necessary, we will take the time to consult with your other healthcare providers so that your overall care is coordinated.
Complete Dental Examination
At Cooper Moss Advanced Dentistry, your initial oral exam includes a careful and complete review of the health and integrity of not only your teeth, but also the soft tissue surrounding your teeth, as well as the bony and temporal mandibular joint structures of the jaw.
Digital X-rays are an important component of your complete exam and diagnosis. We utilize two different intraoral digital X-ray systems, giving us flexibility and efficiency in your imaging options. Our 3D Cone Beam CT scanning technology provides state-of-the-art, comprehensive imaging of all dentally related structures. All digital X-ray imaging systems used at Cooper Moss Advanced Dentistry provide outstanding patient protection by using significantly less radiation than traditional film-based dental X-rays.
The condition of your oral tissues and the structure of your jaw can indicate systemic health concerns beyond the oral cavity, which we would refer to your personal physician. The “baseline” information from your initial exam becomes part of your permanent record and serves as valuable information for future routine examinations. Our intraoral camera system allows us to share information about your oral health with you in a way that is easy to see and understand.
The long-term health of your teeth critically depends upon the health of your bone and gum tissue. At your initial exam and as part of your continuing care program, your Cooper Moss Advanced Dentistry hygienist and dentist perform complete and regular periodontal assessments. You will be advised of our findings and recommendations, and together an individualized preventive and restorative treatment plan will be developed to meet your dental health needs and goals.
Individualized Preventive Program
At Cooper Moss Advanced Dentistry, it is our highest priority to develop and follow a preventive and restorative treatment plan for you ― one that both optimizes your dental health and fits within your unique circumstances and goals. Establishing your treatment plan is a collaborative process in which our professional expertise and your valuable input are mutually considered.
If your treatment needs happen to be extensive and/or require multiple visits, we will work very hard to accommodate your scheduling needs and to work with you to maximize available insurance benefits.
3D Cone Beam
Cone Beam CT (CBCT) imaging is a significant part of our commitment to using the best available diagnostic information for the care of our patients.
CBCT imaging provides our clinical team with a three dimensional (3D) “volumetric” scan of a patient’s teeth and surrounding jaw, sinus, and temporomandibular joint structures. A simple 14-second scan by our Galileos 3D CBCT, combined with powerful software tools, allows our dentists to visualize a patient’s dental, periodontal, and potential pathology status much more completely than in the past. In fact, studies indicate that 25% more abnormalities are found by clinicians with CBCT scans than with traditional two dimensional X-rays.
Because of its many diagnostic benefits, CBCT scanning is now the standard of care for imaging at Cooper Moss Advanced Dentistry. This technology replaces all Panelipse X rays and full mouth X-ray surveys for some of our patients. Any patient considering dental implant therapy should have a CBCT scan prior to their procedure. Routine cavity detection X-rays (or bitewings), are still appropriate for periodic examinations.
